Speedway is topdressed
The track at the Templeton Speedway has been top dressed for the New Zealand solo motor-cycle championships this evening. “We have spent quite a lot of money on it and there should be a lot more grip on the bends,” the president of the Christchurch Speedway Association (Mr A. Nesbitt) said yesterday. "The surface was worn out,” he said, commenting on the criticism by riders earlier this week. "The track maintenance officer (Mr R. Taggart) has done a tremendous job with the limited equipment and material he has had available,” he said.
Today the speedway executive will consider a proposal to lift the entire top layer of the track and re-lay it in time for the final meeting next Saturday. “This is an experiment and if it doesn't work out we will not be stuck with it for a full season,” Mr Nesbitt said. The committee planned to put a lot of work into the track during the winter and would definitely have something new for next season, he said.
