Marylands fete

Marylands, a Roman Catholic home for intellectually handicapped boys from all over New Zealand, will hold its annual garden fete today. Mr J. B. Lagan, chairman of the fete committee said that proceeds from the fete would go towards extending the amenities at the home, as the need arose. “We hope to raise about $10,000,” he said. “We have

had up to 5000 people on wet days before — and if it’s fine, we are hoping for anything up to 10,000.” There will be 14 stalls selling produce, clothing, and confectionery. Both a wet weather and dry-weather programme had been arranged for children, Mr Lagan said. The fete, which has been held for the last 20 vears, will begin on the property at 1 p.m.
