Mayor calls meeting
A special meeting to discuss unemployment in
Christchurch and Canterbury has been called for this afternoon by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr N. G. Pickering). Although district unemployment fell by 98 during February, it still stands at 1062—the highest in the country and higher than the 1967-68 levels.
Today’s meeting will be attended by Canterbury members of Parliament, trade unionists, manufacturers and other employers, businessmen, and officers of the Department of Labour.
