Cars in park
Sir, —“Jim Abelson” has missed the subject matter of my letter, which was commending the car park in North Hagley Park because it provided an ideal area for family picnics, a rest place, and easy access to the Botanic Gardens. This is what I visualised when I voted for it on the council. If it is being misused by many for daily off-street parking, I heartily support the good suggestion of “Jim Abelson” to close the Armagh Street bridge and transfer the entrance to the Mac Gibbon Gates in Riccarton Avenue. On a tour of inspection yesterday I was convinced that a change to the western entrance would keep parking exclusively for the purpose it was introduced. We now leave the problem in the hands of the Mayor for action. —Yours, etc., REG. H. STILLWELL. March 9, 1972.
