N.Z. MARKET LEADERS WEAKEN IN DULL TRADING

The New Zealand sharemarket weakened under an excess of falls in dull trading yesterday. The weaker leaders were joined by a number of record-line stocks, outnumbering rises three to two.

B.N.Z. Finance, one of the group leaders, recovered 3c to 310 c, but the rest of the financiers were unchanged. However, Broadlands were traded at 103 c before recovering 1c on the final smaller sale in Auckland. Brierley Investments, Henry Berry, and Norvic were among the largest gains. Andrews and Beaven and Mount Cook rose 1c and 2c respectively. i

The insurance companies, New Zealand and National, were lower. Alex Harvey, Feltex, U.E.B. and Consolidated Brick were marked down along with smaller industrialists. Australian stocks continued to fall as sentiment remained bearish overseas.
