Gas request declined

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, March 8.

The Gas Council yesterday declined a Nelson request for an annual grant to cover a deficit in the running of a new municipal gas plant.

A deputation from the Nelson City Council will meet the Minister of Fuel and Power (Mr Gandar) tomorrow.

A Nelson City Council spokesman said the council was prepared to install a $60,000 naptha reforming plant, but it was not prepared to stand an annual running loss, expected to exceed $20,000. The council wanted the Gas Council to make up the expected loss.

Radio application. — The Bay of Plenty Times, Ltd, the publisher of Tauranga’s daily newspaper, and a group of American businessmen yesterday announced they would make a joint application for a private radio-sta-tion licence for Tauranga. — (P.A.).
