BRIGHTER N.Z. MARKET BUT LEADERS REMAIN MIXED
The New Zealand sharemarket had a brighter tone in more active trading yesterday. Rises outnumbered falls by a good margin but the leaders, although stronger, over all were mixed.
New Zealand Refining showed a good rise of 10c to 395 c, Forests recovered 4c to 332 c, and South British Insurance was 2c better at 560 c.
U.D.C. was sold 5c higher at 235 c and Marac rights returned to 80c. Broadlands was down 2c to 105 c.
The freezing companies looked easier in light trading, Gear was down 3c to 122 c and C.F.M. and South Otago rights were 1c easier. Crothall was higher by about the amount of the dividend. The shares were ex at 6ic dividend yesterday. Wilson Malt rights remained in demand with a rate 10c higher at 70c.
Consolidated Brick came back 5c to 250 c. N.Z. Insurance was 6c lower at 332 c, a relatively large fall for the stock.
