“South Africa delighted”
(New Zealand Preu Attociation)
WELLINGTON, March 7.
The South African Government had always believed in communications with other nations, said the South African Acting Consul-General in Wellington (Mr G. C. Nel) today.
“We are delighted with the very clear statement by the Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) on relations with South Africa. Our Government has always believed in communi. cation with other nations inside and outside South Africa. “Without such communication we cannot hope to solve our problem," said Mr Nel, who is standing in as ConsulGeneral for Mr P. Philip, who is on home leave. TH has been proved that
dialogue and understanding are much stronger and more effective weapons than condemnation and punishment, and also that you cannot hope to influence people or communities bv isolating
them. You can only do so by increasing your contacts with them, inter alia on the sports fields," said Mr Nel. “Or, to put it in another way, as John Knox, the Scots theologian, once said: ‘You cannot antagonise and influence people at the same time’.”
