FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression over the central Tasman Sea is moving towards central New Zealand. Forecast.

Canterbury.—Moderate variable winds, probably tending to the south; cloudy; rain in the Alps and scattered falls elsewhere; tending cooler.

Nelson, Buller and Westland.—Northeasterlies, fresh at first in northern areas, but winds becoming variable; cloudy and mild; rain this morning easing to occasional showers later.

Marlborough.—Fresh to strong northwesterlies in exposed areas; cloudy and mild; showers.

Outlook.—Changeable; showers at times in most areas.
