Sympathy gift

Two representatives of the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee attended the New Zealand Road Safety convention in Blenheim recently. At last evening’s meeting of the Christchurch committee, a copy of the convention minutes was received in the correspondence asking for payment of $1 for it Several members considered that a cyclostyled sheet did not justify a charge of $1 and felt that payment should be refused as a matter of principle.

Others at the meeting felt the conveners, the Marlborough Road Safety Committee, might have run the convention at a loss and were trying to recoup some of the expenses. Rather than reply stating that the minutes were not worth $1 a copy, but having sympathy with the conveners, the Christchurch committee decided instead to send a donation of $5.
