SATURDAY SHOPPING Are present shopping hours inconvenient for you? Do you want to shop on Saturdays, for example? ★ Do the present shopping hours provide adequate opportunities for families tc shop together? * If shopping hours varied from district to district, would this greater flexibility be more convenient for you? The Distribution Council wants to know your opinion on these questions so it can -eport to the Government on whether the present law should be changed. To make your opinion known, write to: The Executive Officer, The Distribution Council, P.O. Box 10-069, The Terrace, WELLINGTON. Note: Whatever changes are recommended, the 40-hour working week for shop assistants will be retained, and prior arrangements with unions would have to be made. The question at issue is whether the Shops and Offices Exemption Tribunal be empowered to grant shops in any given area the right to remain open outside the Monday to Friday week if the Tribunal is convinced that there is a significant public demand for such a change in that area, and provided that safeguards fcr the interests of staff are agreed upon (at present the Tribunal generally authorises Saturday shopping only in centres considered to be holiday resorts). The Distribution Council is a sector council of the National Development Council.
