New master appointed

(N.Z. Press Association* WELLINGTON, Feb. 22.. Captain J. King, aged 31, of Nelson, has been appointed master of the Marine Department’s fisheries research vessel James Cook. He succeeds Captain J. Brew, who has joined the New Zealand Railways ferry service. Captain King, formerly first officer of the James Cook, has been acting as master since September. . Before it was bought by the Marine Department in 1969 the James Cook, a 350ton Norwogian-built stem trawler, was used as Sea Harvester II by New Zealand Sea Products.

At present the James Cook is engaged on a study of Foveaux Stiait oysters.
