“Spinster image”

Sir, —I should like to comment on David Gunston’s article, “Spinster image outdated.” I thank him for taking up his pen in the spinster’s defence, which he does —in the main. However, on one point in particular we differ. Women who undertake the care of parents in old age do not do so from fear of other avenues. The large majority do so because they love their parents and cannot bear the thought of their being left to shift for themselves in old age. Mr Gunston no doubt means well but he is badly astray on several points.—Yours, etc., “WENDY WARD.”
