Education of nurses

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. A nursing education trust has been set up in Wellington to honour Professor C. L. Bailey, who recently retired as head of the education department at Victoria University. Professor Bailey has had a lifelong interest in nursing education, and has endeavoured for many years to have the higher education for nurses established within a university. The trust aims to raise $50,000 to secure the appointment by 1973 of a suitably qualified nurse to teach a course known as Nursing Studies 111. This would be part of a B.A. degree in the social sciences. The course would be for registered nurses.

Until the next university quinquennial grant, in 1975, such a lectureship would have to be supported by outside funds.
