In a thrilling finish, South Australia beat New South Wales by two wickets with only seven balls remslning In the Sheffield Shield match yesterday. Set 180 runs to get in 117 minutes in its second innings, South Australia got the runs in 26.1 overs.

The victory took South Australis to the top of the Sheffield Shield table.

(66), led the way for the win which seemed almost impossible after South Australia had lost three for 56.

With only eight overs remaining, South Australia needed <4 runs when brilliant stroke plav by Chappel and P. Gerbert (36) lifted the team to within sight of victory. Scores:—

New South Wales 198 and 232 (D. Walters 54, B. Francis 46; K. McCarthy 4/44), South Australia 252/5 declared ard 181/8 H. Chappell 69, G. Cuappell 33; G. Gilmour 4/49, D. Colley t/tjf.
