Co-ordination scheme for Belfast
In the belief that a great deal of development will occur at Belfast when the town is soon connected to the sewer, Cr G. G. Don, the Waimairi County Council member for the district, has called a meeting for March 1 to try to co-ordinate the activities of interested groups.
“The sewer mains are in, and the Drainage Board is about ready to lav the laterals to property boundaries,” said Cr Don. "It will save a lot of money if house connections are done street by street instead of at random.
“One way in which a co-ord-inating committee could help would be to point out the advantages of getting all the connections in one street done under the same contract." Cr Don said there were 16
citizens* organisations at Belfast, and a residents’ association set up some years ago had become inactive. His idea was to have a committee, representative of the various interests, that would have through its delegates an overall picture of planning for Belfast.
He felt that this would give residents more say in planning, and would be a help to himself and the council. The committee could help to avoid clashes in local affairs, and in fund-raising.
