The allegation made at Alexandra recently by Mr J. M. Murray. S.M., about the erosion of the principles of justice by the Water and Soil Conservation Act, if correctly reported, could not stand up to critical analysis, the Minister of Works (Mr Allen) said in a statement. Under the act emphasis was placed on the best use being made of the existing and “often too frugal,” supplies of water.
Mr Allen said the Magistrate had failed to mention that a decision of the regional water board to grant or refuse a water right was not final, but was subject to appeal to the Town and Country Planning Appeal Board, the chairman of which was a Magistrate. In addition, there were still certain right of obtaining writs in the Supreme Court.
