WELENSKY’S VIEW

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SALISBURY, February 20. The Prime Minister of the former Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, Sir Roy Welensky, has added his voice to the ranks of prominent pro-settlement whites and he said that failure to accept the Rhodesian independence proposals would lead to a deterioration of race relations. A “No” vote on the settlement terms would completely destroy any hope for a multiracial government for the foreseeable future, he said. Acceptance of the proposals would bring prospects for African economic, social and political advancement immeasurably better than those that existed now, Sir Roy Welensky said in an after-dinner speech.
