SPRINGBOK TOUR
Young National view The New Zealand Rugby! ■Union must be congratulated for its "moral fortitude and resolution shown” in inviting the Springboks to tour i New Zealand, and in refusing to capitulate to threats on the part of groups such as H.A.R.T. and C.A.R.E., the president of the CanterburyWestland Young National Party (Mr P. McDonald) has said'in a letter to the Rugby union. “They (the protest groups) have extravagantly called the proposed tour "‘a crime against humanity.’ However, they should consider that playing Rugby with South African tourists is a lawful; activity and, therefore, something which the Rugby union jis perfectly entitled to do,” IMr McDonald’s letter said. Sport was by far the greatest instrument for international good and it must be hoped that the Rugby union would, in the future, continue to help work for international good by inviting international teams from any country to tour New Zealand, the letter said.
