OFFER BY BELGIUM
Cancelled test (N.Z PA.Reuter—Copyright) DUBLIN. Mr T. Dineen, president of the Irish Rugby Union, said yesterday that he did not think an offer to play the cancelled Ireland v. Scotland international match in Brussels would be feasible. The offer was made by the Belgian federation after the Scottish union had cancelled the match, which was to have been played in Dublin next Saturday, because of the political situation in Ireland. Mr Dineen said: "It is purely a personal view but I do not think our union would entertain the idea of playing the match in Brussels. I do not think the Scottish union would consider the offer, either.” He added that if Wales went through with its international against Ireland in Dublin in three weeks’ time, there would be some hope of Scotland fulfilling its commitment in Dublin at a later date. The Scottish decision has marred Irish hopes of clinching the five-nations’ championship and the triple crown after its away wins over France and England so far this season.
