Bert joins Marist

A former New Zealand Rugby league trialist, N. P. Beri, will play for the Mar-ist-Western Suburbs club in the Canterbury championship next season. Beri, a front row prop, recently returned to this country after completing a threeyear contract with Western Suburbs in Newcastle (New South Wales). In his most recent season in New Zealand —1968—Beri represented The Rest against a New Zealand XIII, extended his number of appearances for Southern Zone to four, and reached his century of points in first-class football. He first played for Wellington in 1964, when he scored 35 points for the province and another 208 to establish a record for Miramar in inter-club fixtures.

Beri was chosen for the national coaching school on three occasions. Marist - Western Suburbs will also have the services of the three-quarters, D. K. Menzies, who was a member of its back-line in the 1969 major premiership grand final. He has been overseas for the last two years.
