Canterbury 1-2-3
(.VZ. Press Association) AUCKLAND? The national super-modified rod championship was dominated by the Canterbury contingent, who filled the first three places, at the Western Springs speedway on Saturday night. The visitors were clearly superior, with B. Tullett scoring 37 points from a first, fourth, and third in three heats. P. Annan was second with 33 points, and third was D. Cameron, 32. T. Morris won the New Zealand speedcar championship, with a first, second and third In the three-race series. The only visiting driver in the speedcar championship was J. McKitterick (Christchurch), who broke an arm after being involved in a spectacular crash in the third heat. There were two other accidents. D. Harding luckily escaped injury when his super-modified rolled over coming out of a bend. But luck was not so kind to I. Ross, who crashed head first into the fence when his dirt-tracker touched another machine and he lost control. He was admitted to hospital with chest and head injuries.
