General news

Module pays The full-scale Apollo lunar module which the Ferrymead ■ Trust has had on display in the Canterbury Museum over the recent school holiday period has been a successful exhibit. A total of $3400 was raised from paid admissions and in the peak periods takings were about $BO a day. Because of the sudden drop of income with the return of children to school the module will remain at the museum only until the end of next week. A team from the Ferrymead organisation will then dismantle the module. The net takings will be divided equally between the museum and the Ferrymead Trust. Medals sell well Three hundred Scott commemorative medals have been sold by the Canterbury Museum in the last three weeks and sales are reported to be steady. Each nickel medal, which sells for $3.50, has an engraving of Captain R. F. Scott on one side and of Roald Amundsen on the other. $1 from each medal sold will go towards the museum’s fund for its Antarctic wing. Mountain melodies An Englishwoman, Miss L. Reynolds, is compiling a collection of songs of mountaineers and skiers and is seeking those which are typical of New Zealand—old or new, comic or serious. The Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand have suggested that any clubs or organisations which have compiled their own song books could forward a copy to her. Any person or club wishing to send material to Miss Reynolds should post it to her at 144 Booking Lane, Sheffield SB. 7BL, England.
