HARNESS STUDY

Children in cars VN r. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 16. . The Standards Association has been asked by the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) to investigate die possibilities of producing a suitable standard car scat harness for young children. Under legislation passed last year the compulsory wearing of belts will apply to only those aged 15 and over. Mr Gordon said tonight he was disappointed that more people were not wearing car safety belts, even though their wearing was to become compulsory. New Zealand could expect 2700 fewer casualties, compared with 21,447 killed or injured on the road in 1971, if the compulsory wearing of belts effected the same percentage reduction as it did in Victoria, said Mr Gordon.
