Pacer, owner disqualified
(N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE. Victorian Trotting Control Board stewards yesterday disqualified E. G. Dennis, of Wagga Wagga, and the champion Riverina pacer, Harwood Brigade, for two years. The stewards took this action after holding an inquiry into a positive urine sample taken from the horse after he won the Shepparton Cup on January 18. Traces of the pain-killing drug phenylbutazone were found in the sample. Earlier this week N.S.W. Trotting Club stewards notified Dennis, the owner-trainer of Harwood Brigade, that the horse also had returned a positive swab from samples taken from it after winning the Australia Day Cup at Harold Park last Friday night. The N.S.W. T.C. stewards opened and adjourned an inquiry into the matter.
