“Miss World” has no new agreement
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, Feb. 9. The present “Miss World,” the 22-year-oid Brazilian, Lucia Petterle, has been refused a new agreement by the British organiser of the contest, according to the Press Association. i Miss Petterle, who won the title last November, is said to have refused to carry out “Miss World” duties after a row over her contract with Mecca, the organiser. Miss Petterle flew home to Rio de Janeiro 10 days after winning the contest. She won £13,500 in her first few days, including prizemoney. But the Mecca rebuff could cost her an estimated £35,000. After winning, Miss Petterle said she wanted to concentrate on becoming a doctor. Mrs Julia Morley, who runs the contest, said today: “It is nothing personal, but from a business point of view a new agreement is just not on. She can still use the title socially.”
