SELECTED LEADERS GIVE MARKET FIRMER TONE
Although leading shares were a little easier on balance, the marke* on New Zealand stock exchanges had a stronger tone yesterday, with more rises than falls, and a firm overseas list. The index rose by more than one point, to which the 4c rise by N.Z. Forest Products, the 2c gain by Wattie, and the 1c rise of Feltex were no doubt the major contributions.
Other good gains were re-; corded by Kempthorne Prosser, 7c higher at 134 c, Skellerup. 5c up to 310 c, and Consolidated Brick, which rose 5c to 235 c. Mosgiel rose 8c to 97c in ex dividend sales, in response to the optimistic tone in the annual report. Gains of 5c were also chalked up by Hallenstein, Group Rentals, P.T.Y., Bisley, and two financiers, General (Finance and Associated Group; {Securities. U.D.C. gave fur-1 ther impetus to the firm tone) in this sector. ■ Insurances were weaker,' land hotel and brewery inter-! lests also eased, with falls by I Dominion Breweries and Bai-' ilins. | Alex Harvey lost 7c to 385 c I {and Christchurch Gas and! Phillipps and Impey were large losers. Midland came! back 5c to 165 c. { More interest is being! shown in mineral explorers recently.
