BUS FARES RISE

Increases of up to about 10 per cent in the fare and freight rates charged by Midland Coachlines, Ltd, and Days Motors, Ltd, have been prescribed by the Secretary of Transport (Mr R. J. Polaschek). The increases came into effect at the beginning of the month. The bus fare from Christchurch to Methven, for example, has risen from $1.50 to $1.60, and the freight rate for parcels of 281 b has risen from 33c for 16 miles to 35c for the same distance. The passenger fare from Christchurch to Rangiora has been increased from 55c to 60c.
