Do you wake up in the morning feeling sluggish and that everything is too much trouble? asks Norman Hartnell.

Apparently many women do, and by the time they have pulled themselves more or less together, there just aren’t enough minutes left to spend on making themselves look beautiful.

The golden rule of perfect grooming is to take your time. Some experts believe that a low blood-sugar count can explain that earlymorning sluggishness, so if you have a husband who is prepared to make you a cup of sweetened tea before you rise, so much the better.

If not, you will have to rely on yourself. Exercises help to pep you up, and you can start these while you are still in bed.

Stretch your body tall, point your toes and stretch your arms above your head. Then sit up, pull in your tummy muscles and stretch your legs. A few deep

breaths of fresh air, and suddenly you feel awake. Another ploy is to attend to all your beauty chores before you go to bed. Lay out your clothes ready for the morning, checking things like shoulder straps antT buttons, and making sure your tights are ladder-free. SHOWER AT NIGHT Have your bath or shower before you retire, and this will also save precious minutes. An especially good investment is a night cream that is absorbed by the skin almost immediately and which allows any excess to be patted off with a tissue after 10 minutes or so.

I can’t promise that these hints will make you bound out of bed with glad cribs every morning, but at least you will start the day a shade better prepared.'...
