‘Plunder’ in Jugoslavia

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) BELGRADE. Jan. 3. Two officials of the Jugoslav Agricultural Bank have been arrested on suspicion of “a criminal act of plunder and using their positions for personal gain.” a judge said. The two were identified as Milivoj Kojic, assistant general manager of the Poljo< iprivredna Bank, and Elazar iMoric, a former manager of ithe bank’s funds department.. They admitted during their first questioning that they had issued and signed bills of exchange worth about £750,000. They were alleged to have handed the bills to two foreign representatives as fees for negotiating a credit of £12.5m to the Poljoprivredna Bank. But the credit arrangement was cancelled, and the £750,000 could not be recovered by the Jugoslav bank. The affair was described by the Jugoslav news agency Tanjug as the biggest “plun< der” in the country since World War 11.
