CENTRAL UNLUCKY

Play again restricted Plunket Shield matches between Central Districts and Northern Districts, in recent seasons have been notable more for lack of play than for the cricket itself. Last season, at Napier, there was no play at all, this season at Hamilton, rain cut playing hours to less than two full days. Central’s meagre four bonus points—to Northern’s three—from the match, taken with its thrashing from Auckland earlier in the week, has left its grip on the Plunket Shield shaky to say the least. Only a fine 71 not out by Northern’s captain, B. Dunning, which included a six off B. W. Yuile through mid-wic-ket, brightened the limited amount of play on the final day. At the close, Northern was 205 for five in reply to Central’s 360.
