Johnny Cash in brilliant trial
tf The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Johnny Cash ran a stunning trial for the Auckland Cup over a mile in Imin 40 4-ssec, when ha beat a rival, Dunmoy, the last section brilliantly, at Ellerslie yesterday. Ridden by D. A. Peake, Johnny Cash finished two lengths and a half in front of Dunmoy
(Andrews). Galloping with deceptive power, Johnny Cash ran the last half-mile in 47sec and three furlongs in 36sec. The last six took Imin 13 2-ssec. The trial, on a fast No. 1 grass, looked a cup trial of exceptional value. Peake and Johnny Cash’s owner-trainer, I. A. Signal, naturally were delighted. Dunmoy was only slightly less ! impressive. He was not ridden ’ out and, on pulling up, it was found he was favouring his near iforeleg. Later in the morning, his trainer, A. C. McGovern, reported that the shoe had shifted back on to the sole. Aj blacksmith had removed the shoe, a veterinary surgeon had inspected the foot and Dunmoy was pronounced 100 per cent fit. The probable cup favourite, Anne Gable (Marsh), began easily in the home straight and increased pace at the five furlongs. She ran the last mile in Imin 4 2-ssec, the five in Imin 4 3-ssec, and three in 37'3-ssec, She looks in capital order. New Moon (D. Harris) was not asked to bum up the track. She ran six furlongs in Imin 18 3-ssec, the last five in Imin 4 l-ssec and three in 37 3-ssec. Quetta . (Carston) led Raw

Courage (Hounsell) to the finish of seven furlongs, the last six in Imin 15sec and three in 37 4-ssec. Quetta, in spite of his failure in the Queen Elizabeth Handicap, should not be entirely disregarded in the cup. Ajasco (Marsh) galloped six furlongs in Imin 14sec, the last in 36 2-ssec. Sharif (D. Harris) ran the last three furlongs of six in 39 2-ssec.
Patrida (J. Harris) galloped at half pace twice round the plough. So did Codeene (Marsh). Both are well.
Relampago goes fast
“The Press” Special Service HASTINGS. Relampago impressed vat Hastings yesterday in preparation for Tauherenikau. He galloped brilliantly over five furlongs and he might upset Purdie and Topsy in the feature race. From a Hastings angle the best gallops were provided by the juvenile. Slips, and the hack, Twist ’n’ Twirl. Greenstone looked well for the high-weight and Aran Mist showed she should be a danger in the second Hastings Plate. The course proper with the trestles closer in than usual was fast and the plough, although dusty provided good footing. Relampago accelerated smartly over five furlongs in Imin 4-ssec, the last three in 37 2-ssec. He was a little disappointing at Awapuni but he has plenty of pace and might be hard to beat in the Challenge Cup. Slips showed his readiness for the Juvenile Handicap by jumping from the gates with Palado and running the last three furlongs of a half-mile in 36 3-ssec. Twist ’n’ Twirl showed Clandara would not have things her own way in the Wahine Hack by running a solid five furlongs |n Imin 3sec. the last three in 37 3-ssec Game as usual galloped on the plough and he ran his six furlongs in Imin 20 l-ssec, the last three in 40 l-ssec.
