Leader in Bermuda
Sir Edward Richards, who is 63, today became the first black Government leader of Bermuda, in succession to Sir Henry Tucker, who resigned yesterday. Sir Edward Richards’s election by the United Bermuda Party was unanimous.—Hamilton, Bermuda, Dec. 30.
N.A.T.O. Ambassador
President Nixon has chosen the former Secretary of the Treasury, Mr David Kennedy, who is 66, as United States Ambassador to N.A.T.O. Mr Nixon said today that his choice of Mr Kennedy, now serving as a special ambassador in international economic affairs, was an indication of the strong commitment that the United States had made to the Western alliance. — Key Biscayne, Florida, Dec. 30.
Former P.M. ill
The former French Prime Minister, Mr Maurice Couve de Murville, who is 65, was admitted to a hospital in St Raphael, in southern France, today with respiratory trouble. For many years Foreign Minister under President de Gaulle, Mr Couve de Murville was taken ill while off holiday at Frejus,
and after spending several days in bed with influenza, developed pulmonaty complications.—St Raphael, Dec. 30. Foreign news ban
The Indonesian Government will ban the country’s newspapers from subscribing directly to foreign news agencies. The Minister of; Information (Marshal Budi-; ardjo) said in a television in-! terview that foreign news; would be allowed to enter the) country only through an In-1 donesian news agency, “in; order to avoid competition.”! —Djakarta, Dec. 30.
