HOVERCRAFT RIDES

Hovercraft rides are being I offered at the Rawhiti Domain for the next four days. Mr J. Cuff, and his brother, Mr K. Cuff, who have a hovercraft manufacturing business in Marton, decided to come to the South Island to demonstrate their “pleasure craft” after having considerable success in the North Island selling them; 90 have been sold in six months. The 10ft by sft two-seater craft are powered by 20 h.p. Wankel rotary engines for thrust and 4| h.p. engines for lift, and cost $289 (minus motors) in kitset form. A fully-built up jnodel costs $llB4. Maximum speed is 40 m.p.h. Mr J. Cuff said the rides, which cost 50c, were put on mainly to publicise the craft and to generate sales. He said he hoped to cover most of the South Island during the holidays.
