Cheaper oranges and bananas
Devaluation would mean that shipments of Californian oranges and Ecuadorean bananas, due at the end of January, would be cheaper, said the president of the Canterbury Retail Fruiterers’ Association (Mr K. A. Fuller) yesterday. Proposed prices for the oranges are now 22c per lb (2c cheaper) and for the bananas, 18c per lb (1c cheaper).
