Most Christmas mail now cleared
AU Christchurch Christmas mails, except for a few packets and secondclass mails, have been cleared at the Post Office, and were delivered yesterday, according to the mall room supervisor.
Deliveries were made late yesterday morning by postmen as they worked hard to clear the big backlog of mail which mounted up over the Christmas break. There is still a substantial amount of mail from Auckland and Wellington to arrive in Christchurch, but this will now be able to be cleared and delivered as soon as it arrives.
Mail from the United States which arrived at Auckland on Christmas Day is gradually being dealt with as it arrives in Christchurch. The Post Office hopes to have most of it cleared and delivered by the end of this week.
