SMITHFIELD MARKET
Pre-Christmas trading in carcase meat on the Smithfield market, was mainly limited to Monday and Tuesday of last week. There was a brisk enquiry for most commodities although turkeys selling at firm prices remained the centre of interest. Moderate pitchings of old season’s New Zealand lamb sold steadly at mainly prices unchanged.
The main grade of New Zealand lamb (29 to 361 b) realised 30.6 c. There was limited interest in small quantities of New Zealand new season lamb with the main grade (29 to 361 b) realising 32.3 c and prime lambs (231 b and under) made 34.6 c.
