WORLD RECORD
Auckland trotter The Auckland trotter Paulette broke the world trotting record for 11 furlongs when she won the E. G. Bridgens Memorial Free-for-all at the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting last night. Paulette, which led virtually all the way, ran the distance in 2min 53 3-ssec, beating the record, set in 1969 by another New Zealand trotter, Mighty Hanover, at 2min 53 4-ssec. Paulette is a six-year-old mare by Great Evander from Paulina, owned by A. Gibbons and trained by him in partnership with D. K. Gibbons. D. K. Gibbons drove her last night Although nothing could detract from Paulette’s performance, that of the second horse, Easton Light, was most impressive also. He raced without a trail nearly all the way and was only narrowly defeated.
