TAKE-OVERS IN CEYLON

Tea estates nationalised f.V Z Press Assn — Copyright) COLOMBO, Dec. 28. The Ceylon Government has taken over seven Brit-ish-owned tea estates with a total area of 16,329 acres. • Four of the estates belonged to the Anglo-Ameri-can Direct Trading Company, Ltd, and three to the Consolidated Tea and Lands Company, Ltd. All workers will continue in their jobs, and all management staff of the estates have been promised employment for -one year on their present terms. A Government announcement did not say whether compensation would be paid to the British companies concerned, but the Minister of Finance, in his Budget speech last month, did indicate that compensation would be paid to companies whose property was nationalised.

The seven tea estates have been put under the management of the Ministry of State Plantations, which already controls 17 estates.
