Take-over of schools urged
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 27. The remaining private Maori schools should be incorporated into the State school system, said the general secretary of the PostPrimary Teachers’ Association (Mr P. W. Boag). The new financial assistance for these schools announced by the Government last week meant that they were now so close to being fully State-supported that they should be run on the same basis as other Government schools, he said. The association recognised that schools with pupils from Maori and other Polynesian backgrounds had special heeds and should receive preferential treatment in staffing and finance, said Mr Boag. The private Maori schools had special needs
too, but it appeared they could no longer support themselves.
