REPORTS DENIED
5.4. cricket tour (N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) JOHANNESBURG. Reports that an international or combined cricket side will tour South Africa in February and March next year were denied by the president of the South African Cricket Association (Mr J. Cheetham) yesterday. “If any announcement about a tour is to be made it. will be made when the time is right,” he added. Speculations by South African newspapers on such a tour varied widely from a World XI, an English team, including three Coloured players, a mixed English team also including three Coloured players, and a mixed English professional side. Reports also said that Mr Cheetham had personally negotiated with all players of international standing in Britain and that many of them had agreed to tour South Africa. He also denied this report. Britain has refused an invitation for a team of amateur golfers to tour South Africa next year, Mr B. Keartland, president of the South African Golf Union said yesterday. The reason given was because of the heavy commitment of its top players.
