New union next year

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 23. A new Seamen’s Union is not now expected before the middle of January. The Minister of Labour (Mr Marshall) said this today after a two-hour meeting with the leader of the applicant union, Mr W. Martin, and the seamen’s solicitor, Mr N. R. Taylor. Also at the meeting were the Minister of Marine (Mr McCready), the Associate Minister of Labour (Mr Thomson) and officials of the Labour Department. Mr Marshall said after the meeting that the solicitor for the seamen and the Labour Department solicitors would meet early in the New Year to redraft the rules for the new union .in accordance with amendments agreed at the meeting.
