HE’S COME A LONG WAY
(By

Give them (at least) their Dinners, Their Gifts, and their Gew-gaws,— People who believe in very Little else, Believe in Santa Claus. Seeing is Believing, And you’ve got to trust your Eyes, The Face of Santa Claus is one That All of Us recognise. He grins in the Butcher’s Window, He strolls around the Store, He’s present at every Party, Or hanging about the Door, He doesn’t have to be introduced, We’ve all met HIM before. He’s elderly, and he’s overweight, High Blood Pressure too, Animals Fats, and Alcohol, Have loaded him with Cholesterol, His Nose is a lurid Hue, — By All I’ve read, he ought to be dead, But he looks as fresh as Paint; And what a Success! Did Anyone guess, When he was a struggling Saint? Sixteen hundred Years ago, A Bishop in' Asia Minor, — When did he sit for his Portrait For a. Christmas Card designer? In an Anglo-Dutch-American Garb He never would have worn, — Let alone, to observe the Day His risen Lord was born.
