Zone numbers
Letters bearing zone numbers are likely to be delivered up to 24 hours earlier than those without, the Chief Postmaster (Mr M. T. Reedy) said yesterday. In an appeal for zone numbers to be used, Mr Reedy said that all letters addressed to Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch were sorted according to the zoned areas. Those bearing zone numbers went straight to the delivery section. but those without had to be re-sorted, causing delays. The use of private box numbers also hastened delivery, he said.
