Mother and child

Cows have offen enough been persuaded to mother other cow’s calves, but the calf in this photograph has a Romney ewe for a mother. The unusual pair are on a West Otago farm. Mr Milton Chittock, of E. M. Chittock and Company, of Kelso, had a calf whose mother died. Without much encouragement the maternal instincts of one of his Romney ewes were aroused and the pair are now inseparable and calf each other like any other mother and child. The ewe becomes upset and aggressive when anyone approaches her calf. The photograph was taken at the Gore Show.
