Pit Stops
The STP-March team has announced new Formula I and Formula II cars for next season, and its drivers will be the Swede, R. Peterson, and the Austrian, N. Lauda. The cars will race on Goodyear tyres, and an extensive tyre-testing programme will be held at the Kyalami circuit, South Africa, early next year.
* * « The. racing division of. Trojan, Ltd is now offering customers replicas of the Can-Am championshipwinning McLaren cars, complete with 8095 c.c. aluminium-block Chevrolet ■ engine. The cars will be sold to some teams which will compete in the 1972 Can-Am series—by which
time the McLaren team itself will be running a new car. The Trojan company is also selling a revised McLaren Formula A car, known as the M 22, and a Formula II car is undergoing testing. * * * .
Lake Eyre in South Australia will be the scene of an all-Australian attempt on the 622.4 m.p.h. land speed record in about a year. An Australian, V. Wilson, has already driven a rocket-powered car "Courage of Australia” at more than 300 m.p.h., but this was in the United States. The Lake Eyre attempt will be made with a 44ft long vehicle which is yet .to be built, but which will, except for the engine, be built completely in Australia, At Lake Eyre, the sound barrier occurs at 758 m.pJi., and the Australian team hopes to come close to it.
