The man responsible for building the car in which Jackie Stewart won this year’s world motor-racing championship has been awarded the Ferodo Trophy for the British Commonwealth’s most outstanding contribution to motor-racing. K. Tyrrell’s new Grand Prix car not only won the world drivers’ championship in its first full season of

racing, but also the world constructors’ championship. The Ferodo Award is made annually by a distinguished independent 10man panel. Announcing the winner in London, Mr P. Turner, chairman of the panel, said Tyrrell had made an outstanding contribution to British motorracing prestige.'. • The Tyrrell team has been active in motor-racing since .1960, when Tyrrell formed a team of Formula Junior Coopers as'a followup to his retirement from driving. He formed his first

Grand Prix team in 1968, using Ford-powered Matra cars which took Jackie Stewart to victory in the Dutch, German, French, British, and Italian Grand Prix. In 1969, Stewart took the world championship in Tyrrell Matra-Fords. After a rather unsuccessful season last year, when the new Tyrrell-Ford was introduced late in the season, Stewart drove a Tyrrell car to a championship double this year by winning six events.
