Rangatira delayed
(N,Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 22. Striking British workmen were delaying delivery of the Union Steam Ship Company’s new steamer express Rangatira until at least midJanuary, a company statement said’ yesterday. The ship cannot be handed over because of an unofficial strike by workmen who lag steam pipes, boilers and turbines at the Newcastle-on-Tyne yard where the vessel is being built. The- Rangatira is undergoing sea trials and is expected back in' port on December 22, but until lagging work is completed Swan Hunters Walkers, the builders, cannot deliver the ship.
The workmen have been on strike for several weeks. Booking lists for the Maori, which will be replaced on the regular Wellington-Christ-church run by the new ship, had been opened for February 1 to 20 in the hope that the Rangatira would be ready to begin service by then, the statement said.
