OIL WELL BLAST.—Masses of flame roll from an abandoned oil well at Santa Fe Springs, California, after an explosion, apparently caused by a spark in a pocket of gas. The blast, which killed one worker and injured at least four others, occurred when the men were attempting to seal the well with cement. The area is about 50 miles south-east of Los Angeles.
