‘Hotel still needed’
Christchurch still heeded at least one large hotel to meet Commonwealth Games accommodation requirements, said the Games accommodation committee chairman (Mr D. L. Hogan) yesterday. In spite of a continuing increase in available accommodation—particularly motor inns—hotel accommodation was not adequate, he said. There would be a heavy demand for hotel accommodation from distinguished visitors and officials in Christchurch for the Games.
He was commenting on the statement by the Minister of Tourism (Mr Walker) that there was no need for a Government loan or guarantee to finance a high-rise central hotel for tourists in Christchurch.
